Our Educational Journey

The Dream

One day soon, Road School America will both be a physical building as well as an online space. Our physical space will support nearby scholars can come to learn at our indoor or outdoor classrooms, have private or group tutoring/therapy and meet other people who share their values and interests. Our brick and mortar location will be the meeting place to our excursions and our dreaming space to push the dream increasingly forward. Our online subscription services will expand into a nation-wide platform where roadschooling and homeschooling families can access a home-base for applied literacy, math, science and history that is place-based by design. Teachers around the country will be able to access virtual field trips with accompanied lessons and families who cannot physically travel around the country will be able to access our nation's landmarks at the click of a button.

Step 2

Step 3

We are currently on step one of our initial three part development sequence. We currently offer activities, classes and coaching to make home school and road schooling adventures come alive. Based in SW Washington, most of our services at this time support the students living here in this area.

In step two we will begin to focus on excursions and extended adventures. We will reach out to a variety of communities to take what we have learned locally about place-based learning into the regional and national landscape.

In step three, we will make available the full capabilities of our online curriculum subscription for roadschooling and homeschooling families nationwide.

Our CEO: Miesha's Story

Hi! I'm Miesha. I am a person that is dedicated to learning.

I find myself uniquely qualified for this work and also incredibly sure that I am just as much floating on the universal design of life with equal mess and stress as each one of my student's families and the client's we serve here at Road School America.

As a student I had the opportunity to quickly learn that school doesn't have to be one certain way. I went to an art school which broke apart "the rules" of traditional public school and then became an exchange student in Italy which further affirmed that the way we educate our children is a fabricated design.

When I became a teacher, the universe brought me within fascinating educational communities that forever shaped and deepened my resolve to rethink schooling and teaching.

I still believe that the reshaping of our public schools in order to be more just, more flexible, more truthful and more accessible to all learners is the mission. And, at the same time, I chose to homeschool my own children for their academics because I can't watch their creative light and personal genius be tempered, be quieted or be scheduled out of them.

I was a teacher for 6 years and hold a Masters in teaching. I then went back to graduate school and became a Speech Language Pathologist and did that exclusively while dreaming big dreams for the next 7 years. I currently juggle both.

I have big dreams of expanding Road School America and one day opening up my own therapeutic speech and language center. My husband and I are raising our two beautiful girls as best we can and learning so much as we walk through the journey which is parenting.
